Originally, I'd planned to give changesets an arbitrary unique identifier, such as might be created by the uuidgen program. It's been shown to me, however, that there's a significant problem with such a plan.

Darcs' Patch theory is less than ideal.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't fully understand patch theory, but I do understand what it's used for, and what it's useful for, and I know that SDF's patches accomplish everything it does, except (IMO) more simply and efficiently.
