 • Trying desperately to get it work....

Posted by supergeeky1 at 21:43 March 06, 2008
Hey, I just downloaded the bot last night, and so far, I'm amazed by it's many great features. However, for some reason I can't get it to work. I've followed the tutorials and everything, but as soon as I complete the wizard, I get stuck. After the reading the line in the tutorial, "Once you've completed the wizard, you will have a config file called botname.conf. In order to get the bot running, run 'supybot botname.conf'," I assume I am supposed to run the bot in Python? However, I am having no success with that. There's no way to open the file using Python in command prompt, and when I right click on the file and choose "open using Python," it appears and disappears almost instantly. I know I must be doing something wrong. I'd like to be able to have this bot up and running in-time for an IRC meeting coming up soon, so if anyone can help me, I'd be very thankful.

I was able to get a screenshot just before Python disappeared. The bot's name is Balehead. Here's what it said:

code:
File "C:\Python25\Scripts\Balehead.conf" line 6
supybot.nick: Balehead

SyntaxError: invalid syntax

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Im having a similar problem. What exactly am I supposed to do? Wizard completed and created the conf file, closed. So do I just open up cmd and type in supybot MantyBot.conf? Because that gives me this error
'supybot' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

If anyone can help me, I have until Saturday night to get it working. If I can't, then I have no idea what I'm going to do. Thanks.

I figured it out. What you do, is load up the Command Line ( Start -> Run -> Type in "cmd" )
Then, type in C:\path\to\Python\
Next, chdir to C:\Path\to\supybot\ (where Supybot.py and the .conf file are)
Finally, type "python Supybot.py SupybotNick.conf" and it should work. ;)
